Hi everyone!
First, just a reminder that NEXT week, on 16 December for Friday classes and 17 December for Saturday classes, there will be parent-teacher meetings at the times I told you. If you have not already done so, remember to check with your parents at around what time they would like to come so we can book them in next class.
Two point about the Portal.
1. If you are now able to access the portal, you are advised to change your password to something more secure than the standard password and something you will remember!
2. Students who could not access the portal: I passed on the names of everyone who could not access the portal to the responsible senior teacher. They were able to access everyone's account with the student number and standard password. If you are one of those students, please check again - make sure you're using the right number! If not, we'll try to sort it out in class this week.
Finally, here's a really cool website with short audio recordings to help you practise your listening skills and build your vocabulary at advanced level. Do take a look! http://bit.ly/2hbbwXr
See you in class!

BSC1A-17F and BSC1A-9S
Next class there is a small test on Unit 9!
- Finish the review questions on page 97.
- Look at exercise 5 page 94. It's a pair-work activity, but it doesn't work very well as pair work. Look at both Student A's and Student B's parts and match the halves of the sentences and we'll check in class.
- The vocabulary and grammar activities from the Exam Maximiser will help you prepare.
Full notes on the rest of the class with links to the video clips are on the portal! DO make sure you can log on to the Portal so that we know who is having problems.

SC1-17F and SC1-9S Writing homework
First, look again at page 14 of the coursebook and remember what we did last class.
Homework
Write the plan and then the composition for ONE of the following questions. Hand in both the plan and the essay.
1. You have been asked to write an essay on promoting greater contact between neighbours. Write your essay in approximately 220-260 words.
2. You have been asked to write an essay on promoting greater contact between students of different schools in your town or city. Write your essay in approximately 220-260 words.
3. You have been asked to write an essay on promoting greater contact between younger and older people. Write your essay in approximately 220-260 words.
4. You have been asked to write an essay on promoting greater contact between students and teachers. Write your essay in approximately 220-260 words.
5. You have been asked to write an essay on how to discourage the use of private cars in Porto city centre. Write your essay in approximately 220-260 words.
(This is essentially exercise 5 on page 14 of the course book)
Remember, answer ONE question only, and I want to see both the plan and the essay!
Do it for this week's lesson if you can, but if you've got a lot of tests or other homework from school, then the final deadline is:
SC1-17F: Friday November 11
SC1-9S Saturday November 12

SC1-17F and SC1-9S Test and links
Hi Everyone!
A quick reminder post that you have a mid-term test this week on vocab and grammar from Unit 1! It'll be fairly short and sweet, so don't lose sleep over it, but do look at least at the Review on page 15 of the coursebook, and try to do the vocabulary and grammar activities from Unit 1 of the Exam Maximiser to give yourself some extra help.
I haven't finished correcting the 'From Home to School' (or in one case, 'From Home to the Pool', which was imaginative!) homework yet, but the pieces of writing I have marked, I've enjoyed reading. Good to see people trying to use the language from the unit and the texts I gave you.
A couple of websites that I've mentioned:
LearnEnglish Teens Website
LearnEnglish Teens Facebook Page
Fraze.it
Macmillan Online Dictionary
The Macmillan Online Dictionary doesn't replace a good learner dictionary, but it's pretty good.
The video with Emma Watson that we worked with last week was from the LearnEnglish Teens website: http://bit.ly/2eKa1Ou
